After the Flood: Artists Helping Artists
Sep 28, 2016 10:20AM ● By Press ReleaseDowntown Alive! (DTA!) has partnered with Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA) to present a special community edition of DTA! to raise funding for artists and arts organizations affected by the flooding of August 2016. After the Flood: Artists Helping Artists is a free, community-fundraising event that will feature London, England’s The James Hunter Six and Lafayette’s own The Revelers and Terry & the Zydeco Bad Boys at Parc International on September 30th from 5pm-11pm. AcA’s Moncus theater will serve as a rain venue if necessary.
Attendants are encouraged to make a $10 entry donation to artistic relief, 100% of the proceeds benefitting individuals and organizations who have lost property, spaces to rehearse, work and perform, and have lost dance shoes, instruments, canvases, paint and many other supplies.
The Artists Helping Artists event is a product of Creative Relief Acadiana, Acadiana’s branch of Creative Relief Louisiana. Creative Relief Louisiana was coordinated to identify artists who have lost or incurred damage from the flooding throughout regions affected by the devastating flood. Acadiana Center for the Arts has been identifying artists in need, and will address and evaluate each situation to determine the best ways to provide assistance. Financial contributions to Creative Relief, like the donations made at the Artists Helping Artist concert, help with assistance in this time of need.
The James Hunter Six have been wowing American audiences for ten years since Englishman James Hunter burst onto the scene with his U.S. debut People Gonna Talk, topping the Billboard Blues chart, earning a Grammy-nomination and attracting universal acclaim from critics and fans. Hunter’s reputation is as a soul powerhouse and is back with his fourth album, Hold On!
The Revelers are a born and bred local, six-member group composed of founding members of the Red Stick Ramblers and The Pine Leaf Boys, two of the groups unquestionably at the vanguard of the Louisiana cultural renaissance. Simply put, The Revelers are a Louisiana supergroup.
Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boys were founded in Duson, Louisiana and play a traditional style of zydeco with a touch of funk. This high energy zydeco rhythm group will keep you dancing all night with their funky bass.
Downtown Alive! is still free to music lovers of all ages. When you’re at DTA!, please buy a drink, grab a bite, keep DTA! free and support your Downtown.
